Chocolate Covered Pretzels
This recipe (if you can call it that, really) is so super easy, that we’re just going to have a story time today. When I was going to grade school, Mom came up with the idea to send these chocolate covered pretzels with me to a classroom party (I think the first one was Christmas) and they were a hit.
Now, if I could sideline for just a moment. I think it’s relevant for you to know that I was not popular. I was in that twilight zone somewhere between the top and bottom of the food chain. But that day? I was revered. Praised. My classmate Sean came over by my desk and “bro-hugged” me. “Megizzle, these pretzels are TIGHT. Prizzles in the swizzles.” Yes, it was 2004.
From that point, my mom was a legend in my classroom. It helped that she was one of 2 secretaries at my school, so the kids thought she was cool anyways. But it was inevitable, as soon as a seasonal party or my birthday got closer, they would start to ask, like drops in a bucket. “Is your mom making those tight pretzels? Could she? Please?” Like I said, the impact of these chocolate covered pretzels were felt within a 20 mile radius. I still have a couple classmates on Facebook who have asked me for the instructions, which I gladly give them.
The legend is revived…
When I would bring these chocolate covered pretzels for classroom parties, they were always themed, like I said before. We would get those Wilton candy wafers in whatever color and melt them down. This time, I went with a basic white, milk and dark chocolate, with different toppings, because that’s what I felt like. But please, switch out whatever chocolate/toppings you like!

Description
Salty, crunchy and sweet, these delicious chocolate covered pretzels can be customized for literally any gathering or season. So yummy!
Ingredients
- 16 oz good quality baking chocolate, chopped
- 4 oz additional chocolate (different color, for drizzling/decorating)
- 12 oz pretzel rods (one bag)
- sprinkles or sparkling colored sugar (optional, to preference)
Instructions
- Add the chopped chocolate that you are using to cover the pretzels to a microwave safe bowl and heat at full power in the microwave for 30 seconds. Stir very well to evenly distribute the heat, and melt for another 30 seconds. Stir again to finish melting the chocolate. If the chocolate is not completely melted after the second half minute, microwave for 15 more seconds at full power. Always stir well after the chocolate comes out of the microwave.
- Hold one pretzel rod at a time, standing it upright in the center of the bowl of melted coating. Using a cereal spoon, spoon the coating on all sides of the pretzel rod, leaving a 2 inch space where your fingers are. Use a sharp twisting motion to get rid of any excess coating off of the pretzel. Remove to the prepared baking sheet. Repeat for remaining pretzels.
- In the same way as the coating chocolate, heat the second color of chocolate in a microwave safe bowl. Pour the melted mixture into a zip top or pastry bag fitted with a #1 piping tip, and drizzle the accent color over the coated pretzels. Top with sprinkles, allow to set, and serve.
