Spiked Shamrock Shakes
Cool and boozy with the perfect amount of mint flavor, these spiked shamrock shakes are one of my spring favorites!
As long as you have a blender, these minty shakes come together in no time. The only thing that really requires a lot of attention is the topping, which is a lot like the Starbucks sweet cream cold foam.
Ice Cream
Use any vanilla ice cream, but if you can, try and find one that’s as close to soft serve as possible. That’s what McDonald’s uses, so the more you can emulate that, the better. I found this Blue Bunny stuff that’s actually billed as soft serve at home, and it’s scary how similar it is!!
Alternatively, you can make your own ice cream, which is something I like to do if I have time. I spent a few months perfecting my homemade soft serve, and am super thrilled with the results.
Crème de Menthe
Your local liquor store more than likely carries both the green and white kind. Obviously, use the green to get that “aesthetic.” If you can find it, I’d really encourage you to get Drillaud crème de menthe. It’s a lot more smooth and has less of an alcohol burn than cheaper bottles.
To make these spiked shamrock shakes virgin, switch out the liquor for a mint syrup. Torani has always been my go-to for flavored syrups.
Topping
You could do this two ways. I love the sweet foam topping from Starbucks. Also, my favorite part of the shamrock shakes is when the whipped cream blends down into the second half of the shake. So, why not combine the two and get that melted, creamy, foamy stuff right away?
All you need to do is whip the cream and powdered sugar on medium low until it’s thick and foamy and you can still somewhat pour it. It will layer nicely on top of the shake. Secondly, you can continue whipping the cream until it forms stiff peaks, and pipe or spread it over the shakes, too.
Add cherries if you like and enjoy!

Description
Everyone’s favorite seasonal mint shake, but with crème de menthe instead of mint syrup!
Ingredients
- 46 oz tub of vanilla ice cream, slightly thawed
- 1/2 cup crème de menthe
- whole milk, to thin as needed
- 1/2 cup heavy cream, cold
- 1 TB powdered sugar
Instructions
- Add the ice cream and crème de menthe to a blender along with about 1/4 cup of the milk. Blend on medium speed until mostly smooth, then increase the speed to high and continue to blend until creamy and totally smooth. Pour into glasses, leaving at least an inch of headspace for the topping.
- To make the topping, add the heavy cream and powdered sugar to a small bowl and use a hand mixer to whip on medium speed until the cream has thickened and is just barely starting to peak. You should be able to pour it.
- Divide the topping among the glasses of mint shake and serve immediately.
