Tequila Lime Chicken Wings
Fall-off-the-bone tender and juicy, these tequila lime chicken wings are sweet and spicy. Seasoned with chimichurri and fresh lime, these wings will fly off the table. Pun TOTALLY intended. Serve with some teriyaki meatballs, chips and queso for a fantastic snack spread.
Chicken
You can use either fresh wings or frozen wings that have been thawed. I like to remove the wing tips and use them to make chicken stock, but if you want to leave them attached, that works too! Just watch them closer to the end of the baking time and make sure they don’t burn.
Before the chicken goes into the oven, season the wings with salt, pepper, garlic and chimichurri. Be sure to use garlic powder rather than fresh minced, since these wings spend over an hour in the oven and you don’t want the garlic to burn.
You should be able to find the chimichurri in the spice aisle at the grocery store. If not, “>this brand from Amazon is great!
Bake the wings at 400 degrees for just over an hour, they’ll be fall-off-the-bone tender and absolutely delicious!
Glaze
After the wings come out of the oven, make the glaze while they rest. Melt down some butter in a saucepan until it sizzles and add some fresh garlic. When it’s fragrant, add hot honey, tequila and a little fresh lime juice. Cook at a rapid boil until the glaze thickens and reduces by about half.
Toss the wings in the glaze and serve hot with a little more fresh lime zest! Any leftovers can be refrigerated for 3 days.

Description
Fall-off-the-bone tender and juicy, these tequila lime chicken wings are sweet and spicy.
Ingredients
- 2 lbs chicken wings
- 2 TB olive oil
- 2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp fresh ground pepper
- 1 tsp chimichurri seasoning
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- zest of one lime (keep the lime you zest to use for juice later on)
- 6 TB unsalted butter
- 3–4 cloves garlic, finely minced (can also use 2 tsp garlic paste)
- juice from reserved zested lime (from earlier)
- 1 shot of tequila (1.5 oz)
- 1/2 cup hot honey
- more lime zest (for garnish, optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees and line a baking sheet with foil.
- Add the wings to a large mixing bowl and add the olive oil, salt, pepper, chimichurri, garlic powder and lime zest. Be sure to reserve the lime you zested, you’ll need it for the juice later.
- Use your hands to work the oil and seasonings onto the wings until they’re completely coated. Arrange them on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake the wings for 1 hour and 5 minutes, rotating the baking sheet halfway through the cook time.
- After removing the wings from the oven, allow them to rest while you make the glaze.
- In a small saucepan, heat the butter on medium high heat until melted and sizzling. Add the fresh garlic and cook for about a minute, or until fragrant.
- Add the juice from the reserved lime, tequila and hot honey to the saucepan and allow to cook, stirring frequently, until thickened and reduced by about half. This should only take about 5 minutes.
- Remove the glaze from the heat and allow it to stand for a few minutes and thicken a little more.
- Add the cooked wings to a clean mixing bowl and toss with the glaze. Serve immediately with fresh lime zest.
- Refrigerate any leftovers for up to 3 days.
